Welcome to NEPMCC
Welcome to the new website of National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada - NEPMCC.

The National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada is a non-profit organization established since 1958 (formerly Canada Ethnic Press Federation) whose mission is to promote and integrate economic, social and culture interest of ethnic communities into the mainstream of Canadian society.

For more than seven decades the ethnic newspapers have been meeting the challenges of assistance, guidance and integration of millions of newcomers who have immigrated to Canada from many lands. It performed this role in full awareness of a great responsibility towards a country which has been developed by many cultural and linguistic groups.

With the influx of immigrants over the years, both the duties and the influence of the ethnic press in Canada have multiplied. Four hundred newspapers and magazines today are published all over Canada, serving more than twelve million Canadians from all over the world, including those who have been here for a generation or more but still retain the habit of reading papers in their own heritage language.

In addition to educating those who have come here to make Canada their home about settlement issues and available assistance, the ethnic press also helped them to be introduced to the democratic institutions and the new way of living.

Canada, today, is in a period of socio-economic changes in a world that is rapidly becoming more internationally- oriented, looking for new markets and searching for new partnerships. In this connection, the ethnic press and the communities they serve can prove to be an important participant in the Canadian economic growth because of their ability to speak all the languages of the world, their global contacts and their global knowledge.

Through the years, the NEPMCC creates platforms of discussions with three levels of government, private and public sectors to foster and promote better understanding of the diverse ethnic groups in Canada.

The National Ethnic Press and Media Awards Ceremony
Lieutenant Governor’s Suite, Queen’s Park, Toronto

Monday 26 October 2009

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to Queen’s Park.

Lieutenant GovernorMillions of immigrants, who have made Canada their home over the past centuries, have relied on a helpful hand and voice from those who came here before them to assist them in becoming familiar in a strange new land.

December 15, 2009

Dear Asha,

It was a pleasure meeting you at the conference.

I am glad that Thomas has competent people such as yourself to assist him. He does need the help.

I am one of the co-founders of the organization but I have been so busy that I have not been able to attend meetings or to be involved as I might have liked. Up to a couple of years ago I used to chair the meetings but had to stop because of my other responsibilities.

It was a great conference and I have to say, you guys did an exceptional job. I am really proud of Tom and all of you. Keep up the great work.

All the best for the holidays.

Pen is mightier than sword is an ancient proverb.  As such the history of Art and Literature has created wonderful changes throughout the world from ancient period to till date. Particularly Medias like news papers, weekly and monthly journals of all ethnic groups in this globe are the beacon light to all by providing all day to day information through NEWS which signify as  North-East-West and South in one word. We are now in well advanced modern world with full of new scientific approach in all fields. Science and Technology play a vital role to impart knowledge of all subjects. Similarly writers of all walks of life are great since innumerable books from literature. Poems, short stories and novels are being published now and then everywhere. Above all media like News Paper, Radio and Television do play major role on this ground to great extent. Canada, being a country giving importance for Unity in Diversity, variety of daily news paper, magazines and journals are being published by all ethnic groups and achieved a great success in media activities with good moral support of sponsors and readers.
